The Mission

It is easy to assume that North Americans are over churched.  But in reality, North America is a mission field so populous, that it cannot be won to Christ without starting large numbers of new churches. The un-churched population in the U.S. and Canada is over 225 Million. The U.S. is the third largest unreached nation in the world.

Our heart is that every individual and family in North America would have the chance to hear the Gospel and respond to Jesus Christ. A heart for the lost is the driving force for reaching every person with the message of God’s love and forgiveness. Church Planting helps fulfill the Great Commission, making disciples of all people.

In the face of intense cultural pressures and hostile ideologies, we are seeing God bring increasing numbers of people into a relationship with himself. These people need a Christian community where they can worship and grow. God is awakening His people to the opportunities awaiting us and church planting is one of the most effective methods of evangelism.

Imagine what it would be like for a person in any neighborhood or town in America to step out and find a vibrant, authentic, transformed community of believers right there where they live.

We have the vision to see a unique group of people reached for the Gospel in Strongsville, Ohio!  We are seeking to reach out to people with an interest in theatre in the area. We are a part of the church planting team, serving as Mission Service Corps Missionaries through the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Why Plant a Church?

With over 300,000 churches in America, why would we want to plant more?
Consider these statistics from www.e4network.org :

— 65% of North American’s (~200 million people) have no church affiliation and do not consider themselves Christians.
— If we were to start new churches of 1000 people each, we would need almost 200,000 new churches in the United States to win all these people.
— The U.S. has the 4th largest population of unreached people in the world, after India, China, and Malaysia.
— The U.S. is 14th on the list of nations RECEIVING missionaries from other countries.
— New churches of 100 are 16 times more effective in winning new converts to Christ than megachurches.

God is definitely doing great things through new church plants. The church plant in Strongsville will reach out to the un-churched  in Strongsville and the surrounding area. We look forward to continuing to share how God works in our church plant.

Tim Shamburger, Mission Service Corps Missionary

Tim was approved officially as a Mission Service Corps Missionary on November 2, 2010. Praise the Lord! Continue to pray for us as we take this exciting next step in the adventure in missions that God has taken us.

Mission Service Corps was established in 1977 by the Southern Baptist Convention as part of our efforts to expand the missionary force to reach the world for Christ.

Mission Service Corps (MSC) is a team of long-term, self-funded missionaries. By securing their own support for an assigned ministry, these missionaries enable the North American Mission Board (NAMB) to extend its evangelism and church planting efforts.

The genius of MSC is that it is structured so that every Southern Baptist can be directly involved.  For some, involvement means a willingness to go and serve; for others, it is becoming ministry partners to financially support someone else to go.  For still others, it means faithfully praying for those who go and those who support as ministry partners; and for many, it is a combination of these.
