Week 2 Activity – Making Cookies

Be Prepared
Utilize the recipe below, or your own recipe, or buy pre-packaged cookie dough. Make icing, or buy that prepackaged as well.

Sugar Cookie Recipe (Makes 5 Dozen)
1 1/2 cups butter, softened, 2 cups white sugar, 4 eggs, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 5 cups all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1 teaspoon salt
1. In a bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt. Cover, and chill dough for at least one hour.
2. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Roll out dough on floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shapes with any cookie cutter. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
3. Bake 6 to 8 minutes in preheated oven. Cool completely.

Be Relational
Utilize cookie cutters and make your own shapes to tell the Christmas story. Make a manger scene, a baby Jesus or a shepherd’s crook. Talk about the Christmas story as you make the cookies.
Ask, what is your favorite part of this story? Why?

Be Missional
Make enough cookies for your family and one more. Take a plate of cookies and a printed copy of the Christmas Story to a family. Sing carols with them and wish them a Merry Christmas!
