Advent literally means “coming.” We celebrate Christmas because it was the (first) coming of Jesus. We celebrate advent in the anticipation of the second coming as well.
Why do we celebrate the coming of Jesus? We celebrate because He came to save us from our sins. The Bible is clear that all of us are sinners – we all fail to please God. Jesus came to save us!
And Jesus also came to provide a life filled with joy. We do not have to be grumpy! We can have abundant life (John 10:10) Jesus also came to provide a way for us to have peace with God. With our sins forgiven, Jesus paves the way for us to be in a positive relationship with the Creator.
The great news is we also celebrate the second advent – when Jesus comes again. When Jesus comes again, we will culminate our salvation, our joy will be complete and our peace will become eternal.
• How can you celebrate with joy this Christmas?
• How can you celebrate your salvation this Christmas?
• How can you generate peace this Christmas?
Dear Jesus, Help me Celebrate Christmas with everything I have and find joy, salvation and peace in You! Amen.
